If you would like to improve your language skills here at the HAMBURG SCHOOL OF ENGLISH, there are several kinds of course you may choose from.

In general, we offer group or individual lessons.

Both kinds of lesson are offered as shorter intensive courses or as courses that take place on a regular basis over a longer period of time.

As long as lesson times do not clash, it is possible for a combination of courses to be taken at the same time.

But before you can take a course...

The basic prerequisite for an effective lesson is the careful assessment of your pre-existing knowledge of English.

For this reason it is very important that every interested client, without exception, first of all completes an oral placement test which gives us information about their current English level. Only then can realistic goals be defined and a suitable group found. Our courses are organised according to the EU Frameworks for Foreign Languages. This framework has a mere 6 levels however, from complete beginner to quasi-native speaker, which we feel is unrealistic. We have therefore broken each of these 6 levels down into 3 further sub-levels. You will find an overview of this under Course Levels.

For individual lessons, a placement test is also a very good idea, as we like to develop a course plan for our trainers to follow that is best suited to your particular needs.

If you are interested in one of our courses, the next step would be to call us on 040 / 480 21 - 19 or - 16 to arrange an appointment for a free, non-binding placement test. Appointments are available from Monday to Friday, 09.00 – 18.30, and normally take about 30 minutes.

If you are curious as to what your current level of English is, you may test yourself online by completing our Online-Test and sending it to us. We would then send you an assessment of your results and a copy of the correct answers via E-Mail.
